5.1 Complete patrol sequence and confirm security of premises

Patrolling sequence completion

  • After the patrol is finished, the security personnel must adhere to post-patrol procedures. Additionally, accurate Patrol Documentation is vital at this stage.
  • You will check to see if the patrol’s goal has been accomplished as outlined in the Patrol Documentation.

When the patrol process is complete, the following tasks will be involved:

  • Return of Equipment
  • Patrol notes and reports
  • Patrol duty handover

How to ensure the security of premises:

  • People:
    • Staff should wear the name badges at all times
    • Visitors must be signed in and accompanied at all time
  • Entrances:
    • Main entrances should be secure, with controlled entrance systems
    • Side doors should be locked or fitted with locks that allow exit but not entry
    • Windows should have secure locks

Staff should be suitably trained in:

  • Activating emergency alarm systems
  • Using any other alarm systems
  • Utilising security systems, intercom systems, etc
  • Emergency evacuation procedures
  • Protocol for visitors and intruders

5.2 Record details of patrol and incidents using workplace documentation:

  • A record of all activity during the shift, including normal patrols and any unexpected activity, should be included in the basic daily activity reports and Patrol Documentation.
  • These reports should also contain the patrolling staff time on/off-site in the appropriate Patrol Documentation.

Considerations for recording patrol details:

  • Branding is crucial
  • Verify that reports are time-stamped
  • Include details about shift start
  • Make information accessible
  • Display a pattern of activity

A good incident report should include the following inquiries:

  • What took place?
  • Where did it take place?
  • Why did that take place?
  • Who took part in or saw the incident?
  • When did it take place?
  • How did that take place?

Who should write the report?

  • The security guard is responsible for writing incident reports.
  • They must obtain all pertinent information about the occurrence from those who were present during or saw the event. Furthermore, Patrol Documentation should be completed for accuracy.
